ABOUT DOLLOP CREATIVE

Named “Dollop” for the many mediums in which Katie works — a dab of everything — from acrylic painting to graphic & website design. Dollop Creative is a multidisciplinary studio rooted in fine art, thoughtful design, & real-world marketing experience. Each project is approached with equal parts craft & strategy. Dollop focuses on your unique needs and delivers fun, well-executed designs built with intention and care.

ABOUT KATIE

I grew up watching creativity and technology evolve side by side.
I learned to type on a typewriter while watching my father develop early computer programs at Hewlett Packard — a blend of hands-on craft & emerging tech that still shapes my work today. I've been obsessed with learning computer programs as soon as I discovered I could draw on the computer with the original Microsoft Paint program. I learned to actually paint on my front porch along side my father and watching early Bob Ross TV shows.

I studied painting at the Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design in Vancouver, one of only ~50 students accepted into the program, where I learned to think conceptually, communicate emotion through color, and develop a disciplined creative process.

From there, I expanded into design & digital work — learning code, graphic design, and the foundations of building intuitive, user-centered experiences while studying at The Art Institute of Portland. Graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design, July 2013.

My professional career grew quickly. I’ve managed media buys, designed & redesigned corporate logos, built quarterly & annual marketing plans, created print ads, web banners, email campaigns, landing pages, and full branded collateral. I’ve written magazine articles, managed websites, coordinated cross-department brand alignment, and guided campaigns from concept to execution, both in-house and as a freelancer. Starting Dollop in 2010.

Over the years, I’ve built a rare hybrid skill set spanning:
- Brand identity systems:
logo & branded content design

- Fine art: acrylic painting, pyrography, jewelry design
- Graphic design: print & digital collateral design
- Marketing strategy: social media, email marketing, planning + execution
- Web experience design: user experience, wayfinding, SEO
- Writing & communication: branded content for websites, social media/blogs, print collateral

- Technical fluency: Adobe CS Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, + Canva; Wix, Shopify + Wordpress. UI, UX, SEO; Frankie, MailChimp, Klaviyo + Constant Contact; Microsoft 365, Acrobat, Google Docs, JAM, Jonas, TripleSeat.
